An interesting disc arrived at my door this morning with the title scratched over the label: Vampire Killers ... unamused at the unoriginal title, I decided to pop it in to see how horrible it was. To my surprise the full title of the film leaped across the screen: Lesbian Vampire Killers. Those sly dogs ... Having gone so far as to put the disc in the player I decided to press play, and what happened next was quite the shocker. I was treated to a film that was well shot, well acted and well ... entertaining.
The story tells of a lesbian vampire who is killed (long, long ago) and curses the town in which brought her demise to befall misfortune ... the daughters of their village would become vampires (lesbian vampires) at the age of 18. After centuries of dealing with this curse, two fools on holiday happen upon the town - while chasing a group of hot girls - and become Lesbian Vampire Killers. The story is mildly insane in logic, but is played out with such a "matter of fact" attitude that you instantly buy into the world, the characters and their plight. There are some side stories, including one character's recent break-up with a long-time disaster of a girlfriend, and background to some other character's links to the town and vampiric curse ... but that stuff is secondary to what this movie is really about. Hot chicks vamping out on two hapless idiots.
My only gripe with this film is its overly similar character leads, two fumbling friends who too closely resemble Simon Pegg and Nick Frost of Shaun of the Dead fame. Both films are British, both feature characters who have recently broken up with their girlfriends and have heavy set (lazy, and vulgar) friends who only care about drinking and having fun ... and at a few points in the film we are treated with An American Werewolf in London scenes straight out of the lycanthropic feature. The two friends are hiking and happen upon a tavern full of superstitious old folks ... well, once you get past these glaring similarities you can really enjoy the film and characters.
At a time when Vampire films are a dime a dozen (and aimed toward teenage girls and angry soccer moms), it is fun to see something made for adult males (although I am sure the girls out there will enjoy this one as well). Lesbian Vampire Killers is a slick, fun, entertaining and funny movie filled with plenty of gore, adult situations and absurdities to make any fan of slap-stick horror (think Evil Dead 2 meets Demon Knight) happy!
A surprisingly entertaining vampire film. Recommended!

Love this movie! You're right, BTW, ladies enjoy this movie as much as the guys. I bought it, and watch over and over again.

I saw this title pop up around the net and never gave it a second glance. That review on the other hand had me save it to my Netflix que. Too bad it's not available except as a "saved" option currently. Hopefully Netflix gets it soon.
